Baltimore’s entrepreneurial landscape is vibrant, with numerous programs dedicated to supporting local innovators and small business owners. These initiatives provide essential resources, mentorship, and funding opportunities to help ventures thrive.
Emerging Technology Centers (ETC) Baltimore
Since 1999, ETC Baltimore has empowered over 700 startups by connecting them to technology, capital, talent, and community support. The organization focuses on amplifying entrepreneurship, particularly among underrepresented founders, and serves as a pivotal community connector. ETC offers various programs, including funding catalysts and community-building initiatives, to strengthen Baltimore’s entrepreneurial ecosystem.
Baltipreneurs Accelerator
Hosted by Loyola University Maryland, the Baltipreneurs Accelerator aims to build a more prosperous and equitable Baltimore by providing funding, training, and mentorship to local innovators. The program runs from December through March, culminating in a Demo Day showcase. Notably, 94% of participants are underrepresented founders, and the program has helped ventures raise over $10.4 million in capital between 2019 and 2023.
Pava Marie LaPere Center for Entrepreneurship
Located at Johns Hopkins University, the Pava Center offers stage-based accelerators for students and community members. Programs like Spark and Fuel guide ventures from idea validation to market readiness. The center also provides non-dilutive funding opportunities ranging from $100 to $100,000, supporting early-stage, impact-driven ideas without requiring equity.
Innovation Works’ Boost Program
Innovation Works (IW) offers the Boost Program, a five-day enterprise workshop designed to integrate social entrepreneurs into a vast ecosystem of resources. The program focuses on business fundamentals, strategic thinking, and financial sustainability, providing participants with actionable plans and mentorship to grow their enterprises.
University of Baltimore’s Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation
The Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation (CEI) at the University of Baltimore empowers students, alumni, and community members to design, launch, and run their own businesses. CEI offers resources, mentorship, and recently launched an AI-Enabled Business Accelerator to foster inclusive entrepreneurship and drive economic growth in the region.
These programs exemplify Baltimore’s commitment to fostering a supportive environment for entrepreneurs. By leveraging these resources, local innovators can access the tools and networks necessary to drive economic growth and innovation within the community.
